Welcome to Faster Than Sight.

I'm Thomas. For several years I have been active on and off in the free-form roleplaying communities of Facebook Nations (now closed) and later a little on NationStates, primarily writing and world-building for a far-future science fiction setting. During my time I've often encountered questions about how various aspects of futuristic technology might 'realistically' work. Faced with such questions I have approached them using basic physics and maths (no more advanced than special relativity) to strive for answers that are reasonably physically valid, and where possible are quantitative. These answers then shape the nature of the worlds I create, which in turn shapes the stories I tell around them.

On this blog I share some of the questions and answers I have worked on.

I am not a professional scientist, though I have a good scientific education. Neither am I a professional writer, I'm probably not hard-working enough for that. But I hope I haven't made any glaring errors, and that you may find my postings here useful.
